Unnao news: 25 June 1975 is considered the darkest day in the country’s democratic history- when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced the Emergency. On completion of 50 years of this emergency, “Emergency Seminar and Democracy Fighter Honor Ceremony” was held at SVM Inter College, Puran Nagar, Unnao.

Chief guest MLC Ashwani Tyagi said that the country’s independence was gained from the sacrifice of crores of Indians, but after 1947, those who came to power in their hands, ignored the ideals of democracy. He imposed Section 370, committed corruption in elections and imposed an emergency in 1975 to save power.

Freedom of journalists took away freedom during emergency

Tyagi said that during the Emergency, the freedom of journalists was taken away, the sensor was imposed on the news, and whatever protest was put in jail. It was a period of dictatorship, in which the three pillars of the Constitution- the executive, judiciary and the press- were completely controlled.

In the program, MLC Arun Pathak also attacked a sharp attack and said that this is ‘Constitution Hurry Day’, which is necessary to know and understand today’s generation. At that time, people from 18 years to 98 years were put in jail without registering a case, the youth were forcibly sterilized.

Democracy fighters- Phoolchand Yadav, Thakur Prasad, Shankar Dayal, Bajrangi Dada, Munnu Lal, Indradhar Dwivedi, Urmila Yadav and Saini were honored on the occasion.

Many senior BJP leaders, activists, retired soldiers, journalists and social workers were present in the program. Everyone said in one voice – “Emergency will never forget, so that democracy is always protected.”
