Brahmos Missile Deal: After the recent military action against Pakistan by India, there has been a tremendous bounce in the global demand of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. While more than 15 countries are eyeing this missile system. On the other hand, China’s media has appreciated its firepower. The South China Morning Post has placed BrahMos in a very dangerous category and believed that it played an important role in the action taken by India.
India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has already indicated that many countries have shown interest in buying BrahMos.
Which countries are interested?
According to media reports, countries like the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, Singapore, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Venezuela are involved in the queue of buying BrahMos.
Of these, the Philippines is the first country to sign a deal of about 375 million US dollars with India in the year 2022. Negotiations on a big deal with Vietnam and Indonesia are also underway.
There are different strategic reasons behind the interest of these countries. For example, to balance against China in the South China Sea, or establish military dominance in Western Asia.
Why is BrahMos special?
BrahMos has been developed in partnership between India and Russia, named Brahmaputra and Muscova, the major rivers of both countries.
