Auraiya news: Devotees thronged the second Monday of Sawan in the historic Devakali temple situated on the banks of river Yamuna in Auraiya district. Long queues of devotees started in the temple premises from 4 am in the morning. Shiva devotees performed Jalabhishek of Baba Bholenath with the shouts of ‘Har-Har Mahadev’ and ‘Bum-Bamb Bhole’.
The historical significance of the Devkali temple is associated with the 11th century. It is said that King Jayachand of Kannauj had built this temple in view of the reverence of his sister -in -law Devkala. Since then, the name of the village also became Devakali. One of the specialty of the temple is that no one has known the secret of where the water offered on the Shivling goes. The priests believe that the water is absorbed inside the land somewhere.
Devotees from far and wide
On this auspicious occasion of Sawan, not only Auraiya, but thousands of devotees from nearby districts and other states like Kanpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Etawah also arrived for darshan and worship. Some devotees came only for darshan and some looked absorbed in meditation and practice. Devotees earned virtue by offering Gangajal Shivling brought from various pilgrimage centers including Haridwar.
In view of the huge crowd of devotees, the district administration and police made special security arrangements. For the convenience of the devotees, the administration kept drinking water, toilets, medical and other arrangements healthy. Due to the large number of kanwadis, the roads became ‘Shivamay’ and the temple complex was completely painted in Bhaktiras. This unique shade of reverence and devotion gathered on the Monday of Sawan in the Dekali temple proved that the confluence of faith and tradition is still deeply in the hearts of people.
