Dudhsagar Falls: Natural Miracle
Dudhsagar is one of the highest waterfalls in India, situated on the border of Goa and Karnataka. It falls from a height of 310 meters (1017 ft). During the rainy season, when it flows with its full force, it seems as if milk is going to fly from a huge pitcher. For this reason, it was named ‘Dudhasagar’. It is part of the Mandovi River. Which comes out of the flowing dense forests. The best time to see the waterfall is from July to September when the monsoon is at its peak and the waterfall falls with full grandeur.
A mythological story is connected to the milk ocean
A folklore associated with Dudhsagar waterfall makes it even more interesting. It is said that in the old times there used to be a beautiful and courageous princess in this region. She used to bathe under this waterfall every morning. After bathing, she used to drink milk from a golden vessel at this place. One day a young prince was passing by there and suddenly saw the princess. The princess poured the same milk vessel into the waterfall with shame. It is said that from that moment this waterfall started flowing in the form of streams like white foam and milk, which still makes this scene alive. Dudhsagar is not only a place to see, but a thrilling experience. Tracking is done from Mollam or Cullam station to reach Dudhasagar. This journey of about 11 kilometers passes through dense forest, crossing the river and walking on the track. In many places the water comes to the waist and this makes this trek challenging and fun.

The view of Dudhsagar is visible while traveling on the collam to Vasco-D-Gama rail route. When the train passes by the waterfall, it seems as if the waterfall is coming out touching the train. This scene has been filmed in many films, especially in Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Chennai Express’.
