Mumbai: The Custom Department of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI) of Mumbai (CSMI) has taken a major action and seized hydroponic hemp worth about Rs 8.6 crore. This action was taken by officials of Mumbai Customs Zone-III in two separate cases on 2 and 3 June.
Three Indian passengers have been arrested in this action taken on the basis of secret information. On June 3, two passengers arrived in Mumbai from Bangkok from flight number SL218, while another passenger came from flight number VZ760. Custom officials stopped the three and questioned the three due to suspicious behavior.
During the interrogation, there was a panic and restlessness among the passengers, after which their belongings were investigated in depth. During the search, the authorities received a total of 8.6 kg of hydroponic hemp, whose estimated price in the international illegal market is said to be around ₹ 8.6 crore.
The officials have arrested the three passengers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substanese Act, 1985 (NDPS Act). At present, further investigation is going on. This is considered to be another important success from the Customs Department to prevent smuggling of drugs at Mumbai Airport.
