New Delhi. The journey of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned from the post of Vice President, has been quite interesting. Born in a farmer, Jagdeep achieved the post of Vice President of the country while traveling political after advocacy. It is said about Jagdeep Dhankhar that he has never been a professional politician. However, he traveled to three parties in his political journey – Janata Dal, Congress and BJP.

Political journey

Dhankhar started his political journey with the Janata Dal and became an MP in 1989 after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Jhunjhunu in the Bofors scam. He was the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs for some time in the then PM Chandrashekhar government. Dhankar, who was affected by Devi Lal, later joined the Congress during the era of PV Narasimha Rao.

After the Congress, Dhankar stayed away from politics for ten years and practiced. BJP joined in 2008. And when he was made the Governor of Bengal in 2019, it was a shocking incident. The reason was that earlier in political circles, Dhankhar was an unknown name. His earlier achievement was that he was a Congress MLA in Rajasthan from 1993 to 98.

When he became the governor, he continued to confuse Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. After stepping out of the post of Governor, Dhankhar was projected by the BJP as a farmer leader and nominated him for the post of Vice President.

Born in farmer family

Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on May 18, 1951 into a farmer family of a remote village in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. After completing schooling from Sainik School in Chittorgarh, he graduated in Physics and then received LLB degree from Rajasthan University.

Successful lawyer

Jagdeep Dhankhar adopted advocacy profession after doing LLB and became one of the leading lawyers of Rajasthan on the strength of hard work and practiced in both Rajasthan High Court and Supreme Court. He was also the president of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association. Dhankhar gained political stature in these communities, advocating issues related to other backward classes including giving OBC status to the Jat community in Rajasthan.

Now it will be interesting to see that Dhankhar will go completely in retirement or will some other political journey be seen right now.
