Kannauj news: On the occasion of Buddha Purnima in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh, devotees took a large number of Ganga bath. The devotees started coming to the Mahadevi Ganga Ghat late on Sunday night. On Monday morning, thousands of devotees took a dip in the Ganges and thanked themselves. According to beliefs, the gods are pleased with the Ganges bath on Buddha Purnima. And all sins of life are washed away. After bathing, devotees also offered prayers to Lord Shiva while worshiping in temples on the banks of the Ganges. Devotees believe that on this day Lord Vishnu descended as Mercury avatar. Therefore, Mercury Purnima is also celebrated on Mercury Jayanti.

Scholars say that Buddha Purnima is also called Vaishakhi Purnima. Lord Vishnu is worshiped on this day and on this day, Lord Buddha was born, the attainment of intelligence and nirvana was also done on this day.
