Varanasi News: An important meeting was held today in the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) regarding the implementation of Kashi and Sarnath Action Plan set by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The meeting was held at the Vice President’s Office chaired by Vice President Pulkit Garg, in the order of the last meeting held on 28 June 2025 under the chairmanship of Mandalayukta, Varanasi. Its purpose was to implement the action plan at 18 places marked.
Special focus on the main road from airport to Godoulia
Development and beautification work will be done at 18 places identified. These include the main route from the airport to Maidagin and then Godoulia, especially from the airport to Gilat Bazaar, for which Vice President, Varanasi Development Authority has been appointed as Nodal Officer for beautification.
Major instructions and Action Plan:
The following responsibilities were entrusted to various departments in the meeting:
Road and pavement repair: The authority will coordinate with PWD by coordinating with PWD.
Sign board and wires of wires: The Municipal Corporation has been instructed to remove random sign boards at the shops, and will be installed by the new Signage Board Authority. The work of fencing of the roadside transformer and painting of the pole will ensure the construction section in collaboration with the electrical section. Internet service provider and other wires will be removed by the Municipal Corporation.
Beautification of Median and urinal: The repair/painting of the media installed in the routes will be done by the Authority. The Municipal Corporation will do the work of removing/repairing broken mounted pot holders. The municipal corporation will also be responsible for organizing the plants in the median, re-designing/beautification of roadside urinals/public toilets, and if required.
Theme-based Fasad Painting: The theme-based Fasad painting of buildings/shops etc. on the banks of the proposed route will be done by the Authority.
Removing unauthorized billboards and posters: Removing unauthorized billboard installed over buildings with structure and marked 18 spots/posters on the entire route of the route, on the walls, on the pillar of the bridge, the poster on the approach wall of the bridge, the work of removing the wall writing will be done by the Municipal Corporation.
Traffic Management: In order to prevent the entry of unauthorized e-rickshaws, cable rickshaws, three-wheelers on the route from Maidagin to Godoulia, the traffic police will communicate with local citizens and installed permanent/temporary bollards as required.
Re-design of carts/khomchas: The carts/khomchas along the roads will be re-designed on the lines of the works done in the Sarnath area, for which the Municipal Corporation and Duda have been directed.
Hygieneic Roadside Eatries: Tea shops and roadside eatries located along the roads will be converted according to standardized design, and the Food Safety Department was directed to make/serve food and drink in a hygienic manner.
Beautification of major intersections: Gilat Bazaar intersection, Bhojubir intersection, Circuit House Square, Kachhari Square, Police Line Square, Chaukaghat Square, Teliabagh Square, Lahurabir Square, Kabir Math, Maidagin Chouraha, Kaal Bhairav Chauraha and Godoulia intersection and the beautification of God Will be done by the Affairs Authority.
District Administration, Additional Municipal Magistrate, Municipal Corporation team, and Additional Secretary from the Authority, Municipal Planning Section and Electricity Section were present in the meeting. This initiative is an important step towards making Kashi and Sarnath more attractive to tourists.
