Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha (Lok Sabha) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi (Rahul Gandhi) Rajya Sabha (Rajya Sabha) Leader of Opposition and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge (Mallikarjun Kharge) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM NARENDRA GODI) by writing a letter to the government. Urged to give Full StateHood. He wrote, ‘We urge the government to bring a bill to give full state status to Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Apart from this, we request the government to bring a bill to include Union Territory Ladakh in the sixth schedule of the Constitution.
He wrote in the letter, ‘Honorable Prime Minister, people of Jammu and Kashmir have been demanding to restore the status of full state for the last five years. Along with this demand being justified, they also have constitutional and democratic rights. It is important to understand that while in the past there have been examples of state status to union territories, the matter of Jammu and Kashmir has been different in independent India. This is the first time an entire state has been converted into a union territory after its partition. ‘
The letter further wrote, ‘You have reiterated the government’s commitment to restore state status on many occasions. In your interview in Bhubaneswar on 19 May 2024, you said that it is our promise to restore state status. We are standing on this. Addressing a rally in Srinagar on 19 September 2024, you reiterated that we have said in Parliament that we will restore the state status of this region. Apart from this, the Central Government also gave a similar assurance before the Supreme Court in the case of Article 370, which said that the status of the state will be restored as soon as possible.
