Lucknow Gets two Amrit Bharat Express: The day of July 18, 2025 became special for the residents of Lucknow when Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains from Motihari in Bihar to Gomti Nagar. The program was held at 11:00 am. On this occasion, the Prime Minister said, ‘Railways are not just a means of traffic, it is also the way for the progress of the country. Amrit Bharat Express will work to connect the people of Eastern India with Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal and will play an important role in regional development.
There was a lot of enthusiasm among the passengers present at the inauguration of trains. Anshuman Singh, a passenger at Gomti Nagar station in Lucknow, said, ‘It will be very easy for Darbhanga to go home now. This train is a great relief for employed people like us.
Shikha Ghosh, a passenger going to Malda Town, also expressed happiness, saying, ‘Earlier we had to change the train many times, now we will be able to reach home by the same train. Thank you to the Prime Minister.
These trains will be operated to Darbhanga and Malda Town in West Bengal. Both trains will pass through religious and culturally important Ayodhya. According to railway officials, these trains will be run daily and they will have sleepers and general category coaches.
Timetable and Route Details

According to the information released by Neelam, Amrit Bharat Express from Malda Town will leave every Thursday at 7:25 pm and reach Gomti Nagar at 3:40 pm on Friday. At the same time, in return, this train will leave Gomti Nagar at 6:40 pm on Friday and reach Malda Town at 4:40 pm on Saturday. This train will have a total of 22 coaches which will include sleepers and general coaches.
The route of Malda Town Amrit Bharat Express will remain as follows- New Farakka, Baraharwa, Sahibganj, Kahalgaon, Bhagalpur, Sultanganj, Jamalpur, Abhaypur, Kuil, Sheikhpur, Nawada, Tilaiya, Gaya, Dehri on Son, Sasaram, Bhabhua Road, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Shahganj, Ayodhya Dham, Ayodhya Dham.
At the same time, Darbhanga-Gomati Nagar Amrit Bharat Express will leave Darbhanga at 3:00 pm on Saturday and reach Gomti Nagar at 5:35 am on Sunday. In return, this train will leave Gomti Nagar at 8:15 am on Sunday and reach Darbhanga at 12:35 pm. Its route includes Ayodhya Cantt, Ayodhya Dham, Mankapur, Basti, Gorakhpur, Kaptanganj, Bagaha, Harinagar, Narkatiaganj, Sikta, Raxaul, Ghorasan, Bairgania, Janakpur Road and Kamtaul station.

Amrit Bharat Express coaches have been designed with new technology in which special care has been taken to comfort and safety of passengers. These trains will have air-conditioned general coaches, sleeper coaches, clean bio toilets, CCTV cameras and state-of-the-art braking systems. According to the information given by the Railways, the fare of these trains has also been kept reasonable compared to other mail and express trains so that the common man can also get the option of long distance travel.
Expenses and cost of the project

According to railway officials, the cost of a Amrit Bharat Express train comes between about 75 to 80 crores. This includes coach construction, high quality equipment, special braking systems, safety equipment, CCTV systems and expenses made on passenger facilities. A total of about Rs 160 crore has been spent on the launch of both trains.

Survey for Construction of New Railway Line

According to Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway, the Railways has also approved the survey for construction of a new broad gauge railway line from outside Dudhwa National Park. Under this, this survey will be done at a cost of Rs 3.58 crore in which the final location survey and detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared.
The Ministry of Railways has approved this survey with the aim of strengthening rail connectivity in the Terai of Himalayas. Under this scheme, a survey will also be conducted for gauge conversion of new line construction between Bhira Kheri-Raebozha (120 km), Malani-Bhira Kheri (16 km) and Nanpara-Raibozha (13 km). The new railway line passing through Dudhwa National Park will create an alternative route between the cities of Uttarakhand and Eastern India from the western parts of Delhi and North India. This will benefit both freight and passenger transport.
