What is RHD

Rumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is a serious condition, affecting the heart. It begins as a result of rheumatic fever, which is a stretococcal infection such as a strap throtte or inflammatory disease caused by scarlet fever. RHD occurs when the body’s immune system accidentally attacks healthy tissues in the heart, especially the heart valve. Over time, it can cause scars and damage to the valve. Which affects their ability to function properly. This can disrupt blood flow. Which can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain and irregular heartbeat. While RHD mainly affects children and young adults in developing countries. Where there is limited access to healthcare resources. RHD can increase without proper diagnosis and treatment and can lead to complications such as heart rate stop or stroke. It is important to have an initial detection of RHD for effective management and further damage prevention. Regular medical examination and instant treatment of streptococcal infections are essential preventive measures.
