Puri. On Saturday, miscreants set fire to a 15 -year -old innocent girl in Odisha’s Puri District. The girl was taken to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in critical condition. In -charge of the Women and Child Development Department, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida confirmed the incident in a post and said that I am sad and shocked to hear the news that some miscreants in Balga of Puri district set him on fire by putting petrol on a 15 -year -old girl on the road.
The Deputy Chief Minister said, ‘The girl has been taken to AIIMS Bhubaneswar immediately. All arrangements for his treatment are being made. The government will bear all the cost of treatment. The police administration has been instructed to immediately arrest the culprits and take strict action. At the same time, in this case, the girl’s cousin told that she was going to meet her friend at around 8:30 pm. On the way, some people kidnapped him, then took him to the river and set him on fire.
Somehow she ran away from there and reached a house. The people there dressed him and called us. We arrived and first took him to a nearby hospital and then AIIMS. The family has demanded strict action against this cruelty. We have filed a complaint with the police. Investigation is going on. We do not know who the accused are, but the girl has seen them. She will be able to tell better. We want the culprits to be hanged.
The incident occurred in Baya village of Balga police station area around 9 am when the girl was going to her friend’s house. A police officer said that preliminary investigation has revealed that three motorcycle riders stopped him, forcibly taken him to the banks of the Bhargavi River and sprinkled flammable substances on his body and set him on fire. The spot is about 1.5 km from his house in Nuagopalpur Basti and about 5-7 km from Balga police station. After setting the girl on fire, the crooks escaped from the spot. Local people extinguished the fire and later taken him to Pipili Government Hospital, from where he was sent to AIIMS.
Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra, who reached the spot, said that the police has started investigation. Some people are being questioned. Forensic teams are also engaged in investigation. No one has been arrested or arrested yet. Pipili Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debashish Mishra said that the girl’s back, stomach and other parts have been scorched. He said, ‘Two teams have been formed to catch criminals. We are trying to find clues from CCTV cameras installed in private homes.
District Collector Chanchal Rana of Puri said that the administration has taken the incident very seriously and the police have been instructed to take immediate action. Meanwhile, the opposition BJD and a Congress delegation visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar and met the girl’s family and doctors. Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Shrikant Jena said, ‘He is currently undergoing treatment. We wish him to get well soon. ‘
