New Delhi: Indian Javalin thrower (javelin throw player) Neeraj Chopra has been awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. According to the weekly public magazine and the authorized legal documents of the Government of India, The Gazette of India, the appointment came into effect from 16 April 2025.
The Gazette of the Government of India states, ‘Using the powers conferred under Para 31 of the Territorial Army Regulations 1948, the President is happy that she is providing a listening to the former Major Neeraj Chopra, PVSM (Param Special Service Medal), Padma Shri, VSM, Village and Post Office Khandra, Post Office Khandra, Panipat, Haryana. It is effective from April 16, 2025.
Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Along with this, he became the first Indian to win gold at the track and field event.
