Odisha bandh of 8 opposition parties under Congress leadership had a widespread impact


Bhubaneswar. Due to this bandh, which started at 6 am, the operations of buses in Bhubaneswar stalled, shops remained closed and were protesting at the Master Canteen Chowk (which is connected to the State Secretariat, railway station and airport) including National Highway 16. This disrupted the entire traffic on the roads. The protesters were demanding strict action in the incident of suicide of a 20 -year -old student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore and the resignation of Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

CPIM (Liberation) leader Mahendra Parida said that the student sought help from the Chief Minister, Higher Education Minister, Union Education Minister, District Collector, Superintendent of Police, Local MLA and MP several times, but no one paid attention to his complaint. He said that the Internal Complaint Committee of the college had recommended the dismissal of accused Professor Sameer Sahu, but the principal opposed it and pressurized the agreement. Parida made three major demands, including the resignation of the Higher Education Minister, judicial inquiry into the incident and strict punishment for all the culprits. He said that in the last one year in Odisha, atrocities against women and children have increased under the rule of BJP government and the government is ignoring it.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Pradeep Mahapatra said that the alliance of eight parties organized a peaceful bandh. He said that people supported this bandh. Mahapatra said that the government should improve its working style and work in the interest of the people.

However, students faced trouble due to this bandh. A student in Bhubaneswar said that he had a practical examination today, but due to the shutdown, he had difficulty in reaching the examination center. The student said, “We had to walk five kilometers away, because no ride was available.” Parties like Congress, CPI, CPI (M), CPIML, Forward Block, SP, RJD and NCP supported the bandh. Started at 6 am, the closed closed till 6 pm. The protesters were demanding the government to ensure the safety and justice of women.
