Old vehicles: To deal with vehicle pollution, the Delhi government has taken a big step from Tuesday (1 July 2025) and implemented new and strict rules on ‘End-off-Life’ (EOL) vehicles. Now diesel older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years will not get fuel at Delhi’s petrol pumps.

AI-based cameras will identify old vehicles

According to the instructions issued by the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM), AI-operated automatic number plate Identification (ANPR) cameras have been installed at all petrol pumps of the National Capital Region (NCT). These cameras will automatically identify older vehicles, after which they will not be issued fuel. Sanjay Dhaha, manager of a petrol pump in Vivek Vihar, said, “The Delhi government has set up the system. We are waiting to see if the system works properly or not.” Ram Lagan Shukla, the supervisor of Bharat Petroleum, Lal Kuan, confirmed, “From today onwards, the rule has come into force that petrol running more than 15 years old will not be given petrol here. We will also check the vehicle status and its documents.”

Heavy fines and vehicles will be seized

Vehicles violating these rules will also be fined heavy. Four wheeler owners found in public places will be fined ₹ 10,000, while two -wheeler owners will be fined ₹ 5,000. Apart from this, officials have also announced that such EOL vehicles parked near public places or fuel stations will also be confiscated from Tuesday.
