Our discussion focused on the major pillars of India-Maldives Friendship. Our country continues to work together in the areas of infrastructure, technology, climate change, energy etc.. It is extremely beneficial for our people.
After meeting former Maldives President Mohammad Nasheed, PM Modi wrote, “He met former President of Maldives Mohammad Nasheed. He has always been a strong supporter of India-Maldives Friendship. Talked about that Maldives will always be an important column of our ‘neighbor and ocean attitudes. India will be supported by Maldives through capacity building and developmental cooperation.”
Prime Minister Modi also met Abdul Rahim Abdullah, president of People’s Majlis (Parliament of Maldives). The two leaders discussed close relations between Parliament with deep friendship of India-Maldives. Regarding the meeting, he said, “The formation of India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group in the 20th Majlis is a welcome step for bilateral relations. India is committed to cooperation in capacity building in Maldives.”
PM Modi reached Maldives on Friday in the next stop of his foreign trip after Britain. PM Modi participated in several different programs on the first day of this two-day visit, including the meeting with President Mohammad Mujju. PM Modi and President Mujju jointly inaugurated the Maldives Defense Ministry building on Friday. The two leaders also reviewed the economic partnership between India-Maldives. Prior to the meeting, President Mujju formally welcomed the Prime Minister on the Republic Square. PM Modi on Friday handed over two Bhishma health cube sets to President Mujju for Maldives. With state -of -the -art medical equipment, this cube can provide medical assistance to 200 injured and also has the ability to provide 72 hours of assistance to a team of 6 medical workers.
