Rio Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi in the BRICS Summit. During this meeting, Lavrov offered Russia to help Russia for a peaceful solution to the ongoing tension on Iran’s nuclear program.
A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Lavarov strongly condemned the air strikes by the United States and Israel last month. These attacks allegedly targeted the nuclear facilities present in the patronage of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Iran.
‘Solutions should be discovered in a diplomatic manner’
Lavrov stressed that all concerns related to Iran’s nuclear work should be resolved in diplomatic ways. The statement said, “Moscow has asked to help in finding solutions by mutual consent, which includes the first proposed initiative by the Russian President.”
Arakachi visited Russia due to struggle
Arakchi also visited Moscow during a 12 -day struggle last month. Iran has been continuously emphasizing that its nuclear program is only for peaceful energy use and has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
There is a close partnership between Russia and Iran, but it is not a military alliance. Russia has supported Iran’s right to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Moscow has also offered mediation between Iran and its rivals, especially the US and Israel. A proposal includes storing Iranian uranium in Russia to prevent any possible misuse of it.
At the same time, group leaders at the BRICS summit criticized military operations in Iran, Gaza and Jammu and Kashmir. This group of developing countries appealed to give strong support for diplomacy and multilateral cooperation. Amidst internal disagreements in global forums such as the G7 and G20, BRICS leaders stated that their group is becoming an important platform for countries to work together on major issues.
Brazilian President Luiz Inecio Lula Da Silva compared the current BRICS group to the Cold War’s Non -Aligned Movement, where countries opted not to take sides among powerful nations. Lula said, ‘BRICS is the successor of Non -Aligned Movement. Amidst the attack on multilateralism, our autonomy is once again in danger.
BRICS now includes more than half of the world’s population and it contributes about 40% to the global economy. Addressing commercial leaders on Saturday, Lula also warned about the dangers of growing protectionism and trade restrictions.
Let us tell you that the BRICS group was established in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India and China. Later South Africa joined it. Many new members were added in 2024, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. This group has become a powerful organization of emerging economies.
