New Delhi: The hearing in the Supreme Court on the petition of Rahul Gandhi against summons in Veer Savarkar Insult Case has been postponed for 4 weeks. The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing due to non -payment of response to the complainant of the case. The interim stay on the summons of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Lucknow (Lucknow) will continue.
Nripendra Pandey, a lawyer from Lucknow, has filed a case of Section 153 (A) and 505 of the IPC against Rahul. It has been told that in a press conference in Akola, Maharashtra on 17 December 2022, Rahul called Veer Savarkar a servant and a pensioner of the British. In the press conference, pre -prepared leaflets were also given to journalists. This shows that with the intention of spreading hatred in the society with complete preparation, Rahul gave that controversial statement. On 4 April, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court refused to cancel the summons against Rahul.
The UP government has opposed Rahul’s petition in its written reply filed in the Supreme Court. His statement has been given to deliberately to spread social disharmony. The report of the complainant of the case is yet to be filed. It was told from his side that he will soon file an answer.
In the hearing held on 25 April, the Supreme Court had reprimanded Rahul for making irresponsible statements. The court had said, ‘Your grandmother also wrote a letter praising Savarkar. Collect information about the history-geography of freedom fighters. Justice Dipankar Dutta, who is presiding over the bench of 2 judges, had said, ‘Mahatma Gandhi also used to write himself’ your loyal servants’ in a letter sent to the British Viceroy. Will anyone call him a servant of the British because of that?
