Sonbhadra News: Nine people, including the National President of the Janwadi Party (JP), have been found guilty in a case of uproar in Robertsganj Sadar Tehsil campus during the ‘Jail Bharo Movement’ in 2008. On Wednesday, the court of Additional Sessions Judge First Jitendra Kumar Dwivedi, while hearing the 17-year-old case, sentenced all the nine convicts to four years imprisonment. In addition, a fine of Rs 44 thousand has also been imposed on each convict. Each will have to suffer additional imprisonment of two months if the penalty is not paid.
There was a ruckus on 27 May 2008, government jeep was burnt:
The incident took place on May 27, 2008, when the Jail Bharo movement was organized by the Janwadi Party in the Robertsganj tehsil campus. A situation of ruckus occurred during the agitation at around one and a quarter in the afternoon. According to the FIR lodged by the police, hundreds of people came in armed with sticks, katta, brick, stone etc. on the challenge of Dr. Sanjay Chauhan, the national president of the Janwadi Party and attacked the police force there. Several policemen, including a inspector, suffered injuries in this attack. The government jeep of BDO Robertsganj standing in the tehsil premises was set on fire, causing an atmosphere of chaos in the entire tehsil and court premises.
Accused and decision in the case:
In this case, the police arrested the National President of the Janwadi Party, Dr. Sanjay Chauhan, District President Dharmaraj Chauhan, General Secretary Ram Dulare Singh Chauhan, Kallu Chauhan, Radheshyam Chauhan, Sanjay Chauhan, Dharmendra Chauhan, Rambadan Chauhan and Lactu Chauhan. FIRs were registered in various sections including arson, the case was investigated and a charge sheet was filed in the court claiming to be adequate evidence.
During the hearing, all of the above were found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment as well as imprisonment. The decision passed said that the period spent by the accused in jail would be included in their sentence. On behalf of the prosecution, the case was advocated by Government Advocate Vinod Kumar Pathak. In this case, a case was registered under sections 147, 148, 307, 149, 332, 336, 353, 435, 504, 506 IPC, 4 Public Property Damage Prevention Act and 7 CLA Act in Robertsganj Kotwali. This decision has cleared the path of justice in this case nearly a decade and a half.
