Thailand PM suspend after leaked call: Thailand politics took a big turn on Tuesday, when the Constitutional Court ordered the Prime Minister Pantangatar Shinavatra temporarily suspended from the post. The court’s decision has been taken after a petition filed on a leaked phone call, in which the Shinavatra was seriously accused of violating moral conduct.

Court order

The Constitutional Court clarified that Shinavatra is being stopped from the works of the post of Prime Minister from 1 July 2025. The court’s decision came on the basis of a petition filed by 36 senators, accusing Shinavatra of working against “dignity and morality of the Prime Minister”. The court said in the order, the judges suspend the defendant from the work of PM from July 1 with a majority of 7-2.

Leaked calls made the root of political dispute

On June 15, Prime Minister Shinavatra spoke to former Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen over the phone for 17 minutes, which was leaked. In this conversation, he criticized the Thai Army Senior Commander Lt Gen Bonsin Padclong and addressed Hun Sen as “Uncle”, causing dissatisfaction in the Thai military establishment. The call came to light at a time when the Thailand-Kambodia border dispute was already in a sensitive situation.

Now who will handle the Prime Minister’s chair?

Until the court does not take its final decision in this case, the government will be handled as the acting Prime Minister by the Deputy Prime Minister. Also, Shinavatra has been approved to remain in the cabinet as the new Culture Minister.

Shinavatra’s father is also prosecuted

Pantangatar Shinavatra is the second woman Prime Minister of Thailand and is the fourth member of the country’s influential Shinavatra family, who got a chance to become Prime Minister. His father Thacasin Shinavatra became Prime Minister in 2001, who is currently facing a trial defamation trial. Let me tell you that Shinavatra came to Fu Thai party in 2021 and then became a party leader in 2023. He was then made the Prime Minister in 2024.
