Guwahati. Heavy violence erupted during the action of removing encroachment in the Packan area of Golpada in Assam this morning. The administration had reached here to evacuate the encroached land, then suddenly the local villagers started throwing stones at the police.
In response, security forces fired, in which one person died and many people were injured. Some policemen are also among the injured.
According to police sources, there was a long illegal occupation in the Packon area and the administration started the process of removing encroachments there. As soon as the action started, the mob started pelting stones, intensifying the protests and the situation became uncontrollable.
To control the situation, the police first resorted to lathicharge and tear gas, but when the crowd became fierce and a local person died on the spot in the firing during this time. At present, a heavy police force has been deployed in the area and the situation remains tense. The administration has ordered a high -level inquiry into the incident.
