New Delhi . A heartbreaking incident of ethnic hatred has come to light in Haroei village of Gadag District of Karnataka. On May 28, three Dalit minor boys were tied to a flag of a flag in the village by a crowd of 60 people badly. Dalit boys were allegedly attacked by a mob of upper caste villagers. The case came to light when the video of the incident went viral on social media, causing resentment across the state.
According to the police, these boys were accused of sending porn messages to a upper caste girl. Based on this allegation, a mob of villagers tied the boys to the flag of the flag of the gram panchayat and brutally beat them with ropes, slippers and sticks.
Inspector B Manjinath of Nargund police station said, “The incident started with the charge of sending obscene messages. We have registered a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and BNS on 30 May. So far eight people have been arrested, while four more accused were arrested on Friday. Many accused are still absconding.”
In view of the seriousness of the incident, the police have also registered a separate case under the Poxo Act, in which 30 people have been accused. The families of the victims say that when they arrived to save their children, they were also threatened and banished from the village. A parent said, “Untouchability is still alive in our village. We are discriminated against daily. This incident is a terrible example of that.”
A minor, hurt by this attack, attempted suicide. He ate poison and was admitted to Kims Hospital in Habble, where his condition remains critical. According to local sources, earlier an attempt was made to suppress the matter and some community leaders also tried to compromise. But as soon as the video went viral on social media, the administration was forced to take action.
