New Delhi. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar (Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar) attended a meeting of Foreign Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan (SCO) held in Tianjin, China on Tuesday. During this time, he raised the issue of terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir and said that member countries should be committed to the basic objectives of the organization and do not take any kind of softness against terrorism. This is Jaishankar’s first visit to China after a clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. He said that the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April was deliberately carried out to weaken the tourism economy of Jammu and Kashmir and create religious tension. 26 people were brutally murdered in this attack.
He said that the attack was strongly condemned by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The Security Council also said that criminals, conspirators, funding and supporters of this condemnable terrorist attack should be punished. Jaishankar said that Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established for the purpose of combating terrorism, separatism and extremism. He said that these three problems are often seen together. He stressed, the SCO will have to take a tough stand against terrorism to be committed to the basic objectives of its establishment.
Jaishankar said that India would positively accept new ideas and proposals. He also said that the basis of this cooperation should be mutual respect, sovereignty and regional integrity of member countries. His statement came at a time when China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project is being criticized globally, as the project is seen as ignoring the sovereignty of many countries and lack of transparency.
Jaishankar also said that the current international situation is unstable and regional cooperation is very important at such a time. He said, today we are meeting at a time when there is a huge upheaval in the global system. In the last few years we have seen more conflicts, competition and pressure. Economic instability is also clearly visible. The challenge before us is to stabilize the global system, reduce various dangers and solve problems that are threatened to our collective interests. He also said that the world is now becoming multi -polar. Strength is not limited to only a few countries. The emergence of groups like SCOs is also an example of this.
The Foreign Minister said, “How well we can affect global affairs, it will depend on how much solidarity we can work on a common agenda. This means that everyone has to take it along. He also urged to further deepen cooperation and participation within the SCO.
