Chandauli News: Additional District Judge/Chairman District Legal Services Authority Chandauli, Vikas Verma conducted a surprise inspection of Varanasi District Prison. During this inspection, to take stock of the conditions of the prisoners in the jail and provide legal assistance to them. Jail Superintendent Saurabh Srivastava, Deputy Jailor Neeraj Kumar Dubey, Deputy Chief Legal Ed Defense Council Mithilesh Singh and Assistant Legal Ed Defense Council Ms. Preeti Tripathi were also present during this important inspection.

Inspection of barracks and hospitals

Verma closely inspected both the female and the male barracks. He also visited the jail hospital, where he inquired about the treatment of prisoners and available medicines. He instructed the hospital doctors to ensure that all the captive patients get necessary medicines on time.

Emphasis on quality and hygiene in Pakshala

During his inspection process, the Additional District Judge also inspected the Pakshala of the jail. He instructed to pay special attention to the quality of food and the system of cleanliness there so that the prisoners can get healthy and nutritious food.

Dialogue and legal aid information from women prisoners

Verma interacted in detail about their problems with women prisoners detained in jail. He also got information about the education of children living with them. Additionally, he apprised all the prisoners about free legal advice and the process of receiving assistance. On the occasion, he directed the Legal Aid Defense Council to identify detainees whose bail has been rejected by the competent court. He asked to start the process of filing the application in the High Court for bail of such prisoners.

List of prisoners interested in legal aid sought

Verma also directed the jailer to make a list of prisoners desirous of receiving legal assistance to the District Legal Services Authority as soon as possible. With this, the authority will be able to provide quick and effective legal aid to such needy detainees.
