Desk: Turkyy is struggling with a new crisis. This is not an economic or political crisis, but this crisis is related to population. The Turki population is continuously decreasing and has become a cause of concern for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to produce less children of Turki women. The falling birth rate is considered to be a ‘bigger threat than war’, and now the Turki government is taking several steps to deal with it. Policies have been made to give birth to children and have declared 2025 as the ‘year of family’ of Turki.

Erdogan announced last month that the 2026 ‘family decade’ would begin. But their appeal to produce at least three children from women and financial incentives for newlyweds may not be sufficient, because the Turkas are struggling with the deepening economic crisis.

Official data shows that Turki’s birth rate has fallen from 2.38 children per woman in 2001 to 1.48 in 2025, which is less than France, Britain or America, which is considered a ‘one disaster’ by Erdogan, a 71 -year -old Islamist and a four -child father. During his 22 -year tenure, he has seen a rapid decline in fertility rate in this country with a population of 85 million as Prime Minister and then President. Its Erdogan has convicted both women and LGBTQ people.

Feminist activist Berin Sonmez said, “Women and LGBTQ+ individuals are considered the sole guilty for the declining population growth rate, while political mistakes are not accepted.” He said that in this chaotic and uncertain environment, people can hesitate to have children. In addition, help for children is almost negligible and education has become the most expensive area.
